Meet Kyle Strickland
Kyle Strickland wants to build a strong foundation for the next generation by creating more opportunities for everyone today.
Born in Columbus, Kyle comes from a family history of hard work and resilience to care for the next generation. Kyle’s grandfather was a homebuilder and small business owner. Despite being denied loans because of the color of his skin, he established a successful business constructing homes and built foundations for generations of families throughout Central Ohio.
Kyle’s mother carried on her father’s legacy to provide the best opportunities for her children. After Kyle’s parents were laid off from the local factory, Kyle’s mother found her calling in healthcare and Kyle’s father launched a career in IT management after earning a degree at Columbus State Community College. These opportunities allowed them to provide Kyle and his brother with a great public education that would open doors for their future.
Kyle worked his way through college with the help of scholarships and loans, earning a degree from The Ohio State University. As a student leader at Ohio State, he called for more resources for first-generation college students and led voter registration drives for first-time voters. After college, Kyle earned a law degree from Harvard Law School, where he served as Student Body President and worked with students and administrators to implement reforms aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion on campus.
Upon graduation from Harvard Law, Kyle returned home to Columbus to support the community that shaped him. As an attorney at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race & Ethnicity at Ohio State, he devotes much of his time to the My Brother’s Keeper initiative, which promotes educational and community opportunities for boys and young men of color.
Kyle is ready to build a strong foundation for the next generation. As your State Senator, Kyle will advocate for the advancement of our communities, good jobs for all residents, and quality education for every student regardless of their zip code.
