Kyle Strickland Announces Run for Ohio Senate
COLUMBUS, OH- Democrat Kyle Strickland announced today that he will run to represent the people of the 15th District in the Ohio Senate, bringing a unique perspective and working to improve the quality of life for us all.
Strickland is currently an attorney at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, where he devotes much of his time to the My Brother’s Keeper initiative, which promotes educational and community opportunities for boys and young men of color. Strickland’s experience with the Kirwan Institute will allow him to address the root causes of the issues faced by Central Ohio families.
“Our communities rely on their leaders to build a foundation for the next generation. I am running for the Ohio Senate because our communities deserve a voice to lift up their stories and ensure that our policy decisions don’t create roadblocks to the middle class,” said Strickland. “As your State Senator, I will advocate for the advancement of our communities, good jobs for all residents, and quality education for every student regardless of their zip code.”
Strickland was born and raised in Columbus and is a graduate of The Ohio State University. After college, Kyle earned a law degree from Harvard Law School, where he served as Student Body President and worked with students and administrators to implement reforms aimed at promoting diversity and inclusion on campus.
“I know that Kyle brings the energy, intelligence, and dedication to make the kind of difference in our communities that we so desire,” said former Ohio Supreme Court Justice Yvette McGee Brown. “I am proud to support his campaign and am eager to see the impact that he makes on the issues in which we both care so deeply.”
State Senator Charleta Tavares currently holds the Senate seat in the 15th District and is not seeking re-election due to term limits.
